The highlighted words denotes the action of the noun in each sentence.
1. The girl is beautiful.
2. The boy is brilliant.
3. The tiger is furious.
The highlighted words in each sentence reveal something about the verb.
1. The students are appreciated.
2. The cat is driven away.
3. The people are affected.
In these sentences the verb reveals what is done for the noun.
1. He works hard for his life.
2. He is working hard for his life.
In the first sentence works is a verb. In the second sentence "is" acts as an additional verb. When a verb is added with one or more verbs that is known as a compound verb.
The highlighted verbs in the following sentences are known as compound verbs.
1. Many people were killed due to the war.
2. They will come next month.
3. I am looking for you
Auxiliary verbs
Auxiliary verb is a verb which is added to other verbs in order to express different tenses, negative meanings, questions and also to reveal the passive form of a sentence.
Axillary verbs are of to kinds
1. Primary auxiliary
These auxiliary verbs are used to reveal questions, negatives and tenses.
a) Have you not participated in the meeting?
b) We are not at all considered for the interview.
c) I have read this article.
2. Modal auxiliary
Auxiliary verbs which are used to express different attitudes of the mind are called modal auxiliary verbs.
a) They will help us by all means.
b) You must take care of your health.
c) We ought to have completed this work by yesterday.
d) How dare he argued with the chief executive officer.
e) We must complete the work within a month.
f) They have not published the results in time.
Transitive verb
Transitive verb is a verb which passes over the action of the noun (subject) in the sentence to an object in the same sentence.
Eg:
He works in a bank
'He' is the subject. 'Works" is the verb. 'bank' is the object.
The verb 'works' passes over the action of 'he's to the object 'bank '
1. I write a letter.
2. The teacher teaches Mathematics.
3. She learns English.
