Introduction 

Adverb is a word which modifies the meaning of a verb, an adjective , an another adverb, a phrase or a clause. 

Let us see how adjective is used in the below sentences. 

1. He learns English language quickly

2. He is a very fast learner.

3. She does her homework very quickly

4. I have done all through my work. 


In the 1st sentence the adverb 'quickly 'modifies the verb learns

In sentence (2) the adverb 'very' modifies the adjective 'fast'

In sentence (3) the adverb 'very' modifies another adverb quickly

In the last sentence the adverb 'all' modifies the phrase through the work.


Adverb of Manner

This kind of adverbs reveal the manner in which the action of the verb is shown.

Example:

1.. The train moved slowly

2.. The cat caught the mouse cruelly.

3.. The dog barks loudly.

4.. She learns hard.

5.. The soldiers fought bravely.

Adverb of Place

Adverbs which denote places to which the actions of the verbs refer to.

Example:

1. Please do not throw rubies on the road.

2.. I met my friends on the highway.

3.. My family settled in Canada.

4.. Please do not spit here.

5.. Do not drive through this way.


Adverb of Time

Adverbs which reveal the time of action pertaining to the verb

Example:

1. We play football everyday evening  at 5 'o' clock.

2.. I bought a computer yesterday.

3.. It is raining since 7 A.M.

4.. The flight arrived late by an hour.

5.. She is coming tonight from Malaysia.

Adverb of Frequency.

Adverbs of frequency are those adverbs which qualify the actions of the verbs in a sentence to reveal the frequency of such actions

Example:

1. I take shower twice in a day during summer.

2.. The office boy is always late to the office

3.. The President speaks once a month for his people.

4.. They come to our college every year. 

5.. He goes to his mother's home once a week.


Adverb of Degree

Adverb of degrees are the adverb which reveal the degree or nature of the actions pertaining to the verb

Example:

1. She is fully prepared for the interview.

2.. He is too weak to carry the load.

3.. My degree is almost completed.

4.. I am extremely sorry for the delay.

5.. It is your total responsibility.
