Simple Present Tense

The Present Tense indicate that an action is present, now, relative to the speaker or writer. Generally , It is also used to describe actions that are truthful or habitual things which occur in the present. while there is no need to happen necessarily right now.

General Form

Subject + Helping verb + Verb

I + am 

All singular subjects

He + is

She + is

It + is

All Plural Subjects

We + are

You + are

They + are

Use of the Simple Present Tense - Rule 1

Simple present tense is used to express the idea that an action is repeated or usual actions like a habit, a hobby, a daily event, a scheduled event or something that often happens. It can also be something a person often forgets or usually does not do.

Example:

1. I go to the market everyday with my father.

2. He goes to bed everyday  at 10.30 p.m.

3. She does exercise once a week.

4. I wake up every day  at 5 o' clock.

5. My father always takes a nap in the evening.

Use of the Simple Present Tense - Rule 2

The simple present tense is used to express a universal truth or scientific principal.

Examples:

1. The planets revolve  round the sun.

2. Water contains oxygen and hydrogen.

3. The sun rises in the east.

4. Ice melts above 0 Celsius.


Use of the Simple Present Tense - Rule 3

The simple present tense is used to talk about scheduled events in the near future (pre - planned action)

Example:

To Indicate an arranged program. To indicate future action ( definite one)

1.My examination begins on next Monday.

2. Out class teacher retires in May next year

3. The college reopens in August.

4. She fly to Canada next month.

The simple present tense is used in Proverbs and Maxims.

Examples:

1.Honesty is the best policy.

2. Time and tide waits for none.

3. Barking dogs seldom bite.

4. Empty vessels make the greatest sound.

5. Slow and steady wins the race.

Use of the Simple Present Tense - Rule 5

The simple present tense can be used to indicate the future with conjunction which shows time.

Example:

1. Wait here till he returns.

2. Play after you finish your home work.

3. Stay here until she comes.

4. Sleep well until your mother comes back.

Use of the Simple Present Tense - Rule 6

The simple present tense is to be used in imperative sentence.

1. Sleep well.

2. Work hard.

3. Run fast.

4. Do well in the next time

5. Don't smoke inside.

 Use of the Simple Present Tense - Rule 7

The simple present tense is to be used to narrate the past events in a dramatic way.

Example:

1. How the world leaders start the world war and attack the enemies.

2. Indian soldiers rush forward and fire at Parkistan Army.
